The Lego Movie

A few weeks ago I celebrated my 28th year of life.  That’s right I’m 28 years old and admitting it for to the world via my movie blog.
Why is it then, with years of movie going behind me, that I was excited for the kid oriented The Lego Movie?  After all I pride myself on a variety of factors in my movie viewing.  Said factors include fully grasping the power of the current Oscar nominee 12 Years A Slave or understanding the genius of Stanley Kubrick when he made 2001: A Space Odyssey in 1968.
So back to it then The Lego Movie.  Maybe its the nostalgia of childhood.  I was a child who throughly enjoyed my lego play time.  Maybe its the comedy of Will Ferrell, which I came to love in my teenage years.  Could it possibly be the many moments of cinematic reference that I’ve learned and come to appreciate over the past many years?  (One such moment includes Batman, voiced by Will Arnett, battling the bad cop.  Of course Ra’s Al Ghul himself voices bad cop).
Yes it’s all those factors and a bit more.
Movies like The Lego Movie are one of the main reasons I go to the movies.  That is to enjoy myself.  I can check the world in at the door, it will after all be there 100 minutes later.  I get lost in the glow of the silver screen and for a brief while forget all the worry and fear of the world.
The Lego Movie did all that for me.  For the hour and forty minute runtime nothing else mattered, just enjoying the company of a friend and handful of strangers alike as we all became engulfed by the movie forgetting everything else, if only for the briefest of times.
